Lagoonie Film Production’s latest co-production The Alleys by director Bassel Ghandour has recently won two awards at the 7th Cairo Film Connection, held on the sidelines of the 42nd Cairo International Film Festival. The awards are the $10,000 Badyã Award and $10,000 New Century Productions Prize.
Currently in post-production, the film also received the Works in Progress Post-Production Development Award within KVIFF Eastern Promises program 2020 online at the Karlovy Vary International Film Festival earlier this year.
The Alleys marks the feature directorial debut of Bassel Ghandour who is best known for his Academy Award-nominated and BAFTA-winning film Theeb.
In a claustrophobic neighborhood where gossip and violence police people's behavior, the lives of residents intertwine and collide as some try to maintain social norms while others try to break them. The Alleys is produced by The Imaginarium, Bayt AlShawarb, Lagoonie Film Production, and is distributed by MAD Solutions in collaboration with Lagoonie Film Production. The film project was developed through Eave 2016 and was supported by Jordan Film Fund and the Royal Film Commission- Jordan, Doha Film Institute, Dubai Connections and Red Sea lodge.
Bassel Ghandour is a Jordanian writer/director/producer. He studied Cinematic Arts at the University of Southern California in the USA. In 2014, he wrote and produced Theeb, which was nominated for Best Foreign Language Film at the Academy Awards in 2016 and also received the BAFTA Film Award in the same year.
